It is the New Year and here we all are scrambling around to find some resolutions…the question is why do we feel the need to have resolutions. The idea that we can start again with all the hope that the “beginning” has to offer is something we all strive for.

“A clean slate”, “a new leaf”, these are such tempting propositions as in each of our lives there are things that we would like to change and re-do. It provides us with a sense of control in the midst of the uncontrollable and therefore provides a sense of calm, particularly after the seasons exaggerations!!!

I think it is a great idea, and it is truly a way of making a final and definitive change in your life, but always remember you have to WANT to make the change otherwise no matter of persuasion by someone else will make any difference. So let’s start this year with the absolute desire to find a new found level of health and youth and at the end of this year you will feel so proud of yourself.

So when it comes to changing your ways the most important thing to remember is that we all have the capacity to make tough changes it is simply a matter of really committing. The other thing that you have to keep in mind is that it is not about giving up something that you love like booze, fried food, sugar, cigarettes etc it is the relearning that is really tough. Changing something that you have done for a long time can be unsettling. Human beings are by nature creatures of habit and so taking away something that we do habitually leaves a moment of unknowing of what to do in that moment.

It is time to start relearning.

Each person finds different ways of relearning an old negative habit and making it a new positive one, the most successful is to take yourself out of everyday life and learn many things in a new way, in the way that we offer at Tuscan Fitness. It is a way of finding yourself differently as you put yourself in an unknown situation and in turn you will learn new things about yourself on the way you become a better version of yourself. Other effective ways that I find are to do a completely opposite action to that which you desire. For example if you feel anxiety and you want a drink or a cigarette instead you should do 20 squats. First and foremost this can be done anywhere, if you are at the office just go into the bathroom and bang out those squats, by the time you are done with them you will feel pumped and full of energy and the craving you had will have disappeared. You will also find that by the time you have craved something enough your butt is looking more toned and you love looking in the mirror (a little bonus)!

“Life is too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat you right. Forget about those who don’t. Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would most likely be worth it.” – Harvey MacKay
